Buy or Hire? When Purchasing Event Furniture Pays Off
2026-10-13
Buying event furniture only makes sense once you are ordering often enough that hiring starts costing more than owning. Here is how to work out which side of that line you are on.
Count your events per year
One or two events a year, a wedding, a single product launch, rarely justifies buying. You pay for storage and maintenance on equipment that sits idle for 350+ days. If that is your situation, our sister site Expo Hire rents the same ranges by the day without the ownership overhead.
When buying wins
Venues, event companies, and businesses running monthly or more frequent events usually buy. Once furniture is in use more than a handful of times a year, the per-use cost of owning it falls below repeat hire fees, and you are not working around someone else's stock availability or delivery slots.
Storage and condition
Owned furniture needs somewhere dry to live and occasional upkeep between events, folding mechanisms checked, faux leather wiped down, frames kept dry. Our Storage and Maintenance Guide covers what that actually involves, it is less work than people expect for stackable ranges.
A middle path
Some venues buy their core, frequently-used stock, trestle tables, standard chairs, and hire in anything unusual or oversized for a specific booking. That avoids storing equipment you will only need once or twice.
Trade pricing either way
If you are ordering regularly, a trade account gets volume pricing applied automatically, worth setting up before you place your first bulk order.
