Chair choices for weddings

Chiavari chairs dominate wedding bookings in the UK. The tapered legs and open back photograph well, they stack to 10 high for storage, and they come in limewash or white to match most venue colour schemes. For a venue buying its first batch of wedding chairs, Chiavari is the standard starting point.

Seat pads

Chiavari seat pads clip onto the chair frame and add comfort for long wedding breakfasts. Available in ivory and black to match standard table linen colours. At £5.50 each, they add roughly 17% to the per-seat cost and make a visible difference to the finished room.

Table choices for weddings

Round tables are the standard choice for wedding breakfasts. They encourage conversation across the whole table and look better in room photographs than long rectangular runs. Rectangular tables work for top tables, gift tables and buffet stations.

Top tables typically seat 6–12 on one side only. A 6ft rectangular table covers most top-table configurations. Allow one 6ft rectangular per buffet station alongside your round guest tables.

Quantity planning

Reference figures for working out an order:

• 100-guest seated wedding: 10 × 5ft round tables (10 per table) plus 1 × 6ft rectangular top table = 11 tables, 100 chairs
• Allow 5–10% spare chairs for breakages, late additions and high-chair substitutions
• Ceremony seating: if the ceremony and reception are in separate rooms or require a chair flip, you need either a separate ceremony chair stock or to factor in flip time between the two
• Hire companies typically carry 150–200 chairs per 100-guest capacity to cover concurrent bookings
