Beer Garden Setup Guide
Benches, shelter, heating and seating for pubs, bar terraces and outdoor hospitality spaces.
Beer bench sets
The EVP-BBS-200 beer bench set seats 6–8 per unit and is the first piece of kit most pub operators buy for outdoor space. The bench and table use a galvanised steel frame with UV-stabilised plastic panels: the finish does not corrode or fade in the same way as painted timber.
One practical detail: beer bench sets do not stack. Each unit takes up its own floor footprint whether in use or in storage. Factor this into your available storage space before ordering in volume — a set of 10 bench sets needs approximately 25m² of dry storage space.

Styled alternative: Tolix chairs and steel tables
Beer benches suit volume seating in a traditional beer garden layout. For a more styled terrace — boutique pubs, hotel gardens, bar terraces — Tolix chairs paired with full steel tables give a different look without requiring bespoke furniture.
The Tolix chair stacks to 8 high, which is useful for clearing the terrace quickly for other events. Full steel tables are fixed-height and do not fold, so storage needs the same planning as beer bench sets. Both products carry a powder-coated finish and tolerate outdoor use well; bring them under cover over winter to extend the finish life.

Gazebos for all-weather cover
A 3m × 3m gazebo covers a single 2m beer bench set with clearance on three sides. A 3m × 6m covers two bench sets side by side, or works as a bar servery shelter. For permanent or semi-permanent outdoor spaces, buying the frame and canopy separately lets you remove the canopy over winter and extends the life of both components.
| Option | Size | Includes | Price ex-VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frame only | 3m × 3m | Aluminium frame | £329.95 |
| Frame only | 3m × 6m | Aluminium frame | £499.95 |
| Full package | 3m × 3m | Frame, canopy, 4 × 15kg weight bases | £579.95 |
| Full package | 3m × 6m | Frame, canopy, 6 × 15kg weight bases | £849.95 |
On hard-standing surfaces where ground anchoring is not possible, four weight bases (15kg each) per 3m × 3m gazebo is the minimum in normal wind conditions. Do not leave a canopy erected in high winds unattended.

Patio heaters
Both pyramid and mushroom heaters run on standard 13kg LPG cylinders and output 13kW. The differences are practical rather than performance-based:
Pyramid — £189.95 ex-VAT
Radiates 360 degrees from the flame column. Visible across a garden and works in open layouts where people move around the heater. Takes slightly more floor space than the mushroom version.
Mushroom — £159.95 ex-VAT
Directs heat downward in a concentrated zone. Suits fixed seating rows and narrower terraces where you want heat over a specific table rather than spread across open space.
Keep a minimum 600mm clearance from combustible materials (gazebo canopies, fabric windbreaks, parasols). Do not use indoors or in enclosed spaces.

Folding chairs for flexible seating
Folding chairs add temporary seating for quiz nights, outdoor screenings or events in the garden without requiring permanent bench sets. At £12.90 per chair (sold in packs of 10), they stack to 50 high and store in a small footprint. They are not a replacement for bench sets in day-to-day beer garden use, but they extend capacity reliably for occasional events.

Layout tips
- Allow 600mm of bench length per person — a 2m bench set seats 6 comfortably and 8 with less elbow room
- Leave a minimum 1.2m aisle between bench rows for service and fire exit routes
- Position patio heaters at the end of a bench row rather than between rows — heat radiates more usefully and gas cylinder access is easier
- On paved surfaces, use four 15kg weight bases per 3m × 3m gazebo. On grass, use the ground anchor spikes through the feet
- Tolix chairs left outside overnight in damp conditions will show surface oxidation on the paint over time — store under cover where possible
Licensing
Placing furniture on a public pavement or highway requires a pavement licence from your local authority. Furniture in an enclosed private garden does not. If you are extending seating beyond your existing licensed premises boundary, check with your local council before setting up. Requirements vary by council. The Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 updated the pavement licence framework in England.
